Wool Felting Instructions

Here are some simple instructions for wool felting using your washing machine.  All of the bag and stocking samples displayed on the www.mybagatelle.com website were felted using the following method:

  1. Put all items to be felted in a zipper pillow protector.  This saves your washing machine from all those fibers.

  2. Put bags in your washing machine with some other heavy, non-shredding items such as old jeans and t-shirts.  Never towels!!

  3. Set your washing machine to the hottest and lowest water settings.  Add a small amount of detergent (Wool Wash if you have it).  Agitate for 5 minutes or so, then check the size.

  4. Continue agitating and checking until items are the size you want.  Rinse, and squeeze out excess water.  I always run my felting through the cold rinse cycle on my washing machine.  However, some books warn that this can cause problems, do it at your own risk.

That's all there is to it!
